My personal spiritual meaning of a mala
A mala to me is the visible and tangible connection between you and the divine. I treat it as a sacred means to keep you conscious of the fact that you are a spiritual being having a human experience. Thus when making my malas I chant my mantra AUM Namah Shivaya (I bow to the divinity in you) to prepare your mala to receive your energy and I also adhere to a vegetarian diet to keep the energy pure.

Meaning Rudraksha Bead
The Rudraksha bead is believed to be an instrument of transformation. It contains sacred power to positively influence and protect every aspect and expression of your soul as you walk the path to your divine and immortal enlightenment. Rudraksha means the eyes of Rudra (one of the Vedic names of Lord Shiva), but is commonly translated as the tears of Shiva. The story goes that while contemplating humanity’s suffering, Lord Shiva began to shed tears of compassion. As His tears fell, He guided them towards Earth and transformed them into divine seeds for the benefit of those seeking freedom from suffering and union with the Divine. Lord Shiva is the third God of the holy trinity in the Hindu religion and is also the Lord of Yoga. Rudraksha is a natural seed, found within the blue fruit of the evergreen tree Elaeocarpus ganitrus, growing in India, Nepal and other areas in South East Asia.

Meaning Guru bead
The Guru bead, also called the Sumeru bead, is the 109th bead in your mala and
represents your spiritual teacher.

Kashmiri beads Meaning Guru bead
Kashmiri beads are made from a mix of marble powder and manufactured resin (polymer clay) while the resin used in Lac beads is from a natural source. Also known as, “Bollywood” beads, Kashmiri beads are hand decorated and use a variety of materials for embellishment such as mirror chips, seed beads, silver plating and rhinestones.

Meaning AUM
AUM is the sacred syllable in Sanskrit and Hinduism. The sound AUM represents the Absolute Reality i,e. God, Brahman, the Supreme, the Universe, the all aware, the all knowing divine presence. AUM is the word of God, the only sound in the Universe. When you chant AUM you are opening yourself to the sound of the Universe, tuning your chakras and awakening your consciousness.

Meaning knots
It is believed that the knots in your mala represents the connection between you and the divine and during meditation creates a moment to release any negative thought.

It is believed that the tassel represent your roots here on Earth.
